Wow, what a year it has been for the State of Wisconsin! It began with a Republican sweep. The GOP gained the majority in both chambers in addition to the victory of Scott Walker. Wisconsin was only one of two states in our country that completely flipped from Democrat to Republican. Voters spoke and we listened as we enacted legislation that improved our great state. We passed important reforms that allowed us to balance the state budget and gave local municipalities to balance their own budgets. We made our streets safer by repealing the early release of violent offenders. We finally passed concealed carry legislation giving law-abiding citizens the right to carry a concealed firearm. Plus, we restored integrity of our elections with the enactment of the voter ID. When 2011 began, Governor Scott Walker announced Wisconsin was Open for Business. The two jobs special sessions showed the nation that we were serious about that statement. It was a year of progress in improving our economic climate. Wisconsin's ranking improved in the CNBC and Forbes 2011 best states for business rankings. The top CEO's in our country gave Wisconsin the biggest jump in the nation and the biggest in the history of the magazine. The Chief Executive Magazine ranked Wisconsin 24th in the nation for business, that's up 17 places from the year prior.
It was a memorable year. During the past year, the Racine Journal Times did a profile of me. Here's a look back at the story.
